Hiawatha Elementary School Presents Elders’ Wisdom, Children’s Song™ with Smithsonian Folkways recording artist, Larry Long

Minneapolis, MN – Hiawatha Elementary Schoolwill host a community celebration honoring three community elders at the Hiawatha Elementary School gymnasium on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 from 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM. The Elder Wisdom, Children’s Song™ community celebration is brought to you by Community Celebration of Place (501-C-3) in partnership with Minneapolis Public Schools and the West Metro Education Program (WMEP).

Larry Long, Executive Director of Community Celebration of Place and creator of Elders’ Wisdom, Children’s Song, has been working with 3rd and 4th grade students at Hiawatha Elementary School to collectively write songs and gather recitations that honor the life stories of the following community elders:

  • Agent Antoine Berryman – Agent Berryman is the officer in charge of all of the Safety Patrols in Minneapolis. He has had a lot of experiences in law enforcement and business.
  • Kathryn Jensen – Kathryn is the first of three generations to attend Hiawatha School. Part of her story is the changes she has seen in the neighborhood and the school over the years.
  • Kenneth Antonio Rivera – Ken is an Art Teacher and artist who works at Hiawatha as a bilingual educational assistant. His life experiences are varied and inspiring.

Community Celebration of Place is partnering with Little Free Library on Saturday, May 21, in Minneapolis, Minnesota for the first-ever Little Free Library Festival.

Join highly acclaimed author Kent Nerburn and Larry Long, Executive Director of Community Celebration of Palce for an evening of songs, stories and music.

During 2017-2018, it is a primary program of Community Celebration of Place to transfer their collection into archives that will be open to the public for generations to come
